5 GREAT PLACES TO EAT IN STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN

Like many capitol cities in Europe, Stockholm has endless options when it comes to good food. Here are 5 great places we discovered and will definitely be returning to!

1). Ristorante Rodolfino

I understand that pizza isn’t traditional Swedish cuisine but when we caught a whiff of the food that was coming from Ristorante Rodolfino, we had to stop. The place was cute, the hostess was friendly and when we took our first bite of food, we may as well have been in Italy. Both the Pizza Margherita and the Quattro Formaggio were excellent and tasted like something we had had in Naples. If you’re in Stockholm and you like pizza (so basically, if you’re in Stockholm), a visit to Ristorante Rodolfino is a must. And don’t forget to say hi to our favorite waitress, Chiara!

2). Ardbeg Embassy

Sweden meets Scotland in this fit-for-a-Viking Gamla Stan pub. We wanted to go somewhere with some authentic Swedish cuisine and my husband happens to love Islay scotch so the Ardbeg Embassy was a win-win. Along with the scotch (I’m not as much of a fan so I actually had a Whiskey Sour), we started the meal with a very tasty Potato Leek soup. Ryan had Swedish Meatballs and I was happy that they had on their menu a number of vegetarian options. I opted for the Chickpea Croquettes which were served on a bed a multi-grain salad with sautéed carrots as sweet as candy. The kids shared a plate of mixed grilled vegetables with some of the best buttery mashed potatoes that I had ever had. The Ardbeg Embassy was a big hit with all of us.

3). Bröd & Salt

On my list of food to try in Stockholm, the Kanelbullar (a Swedish cinnamon bun) was one of them. Bröd & Salt appeared charming and it was busy so I took that as a good sign. We went in and picked out a couple traditional pastries, including my cardamom-laced cinnamon bun (it was delicious!) and since it was lunchtime I figured we should also get something more substantial. We shared two sandwiches and they were excellent, especially the pressed brie, walnut and pear panini. A true Swedish fika (coffee break), we washed everything down with fine cappuccinos.

4). Gunters Korvar

I’m a vegetarian. My husband is not- so much not, in fact, that he couldn’t resist a hot dog from Gunter’s Korvar (and they actually do have a veggie-dog)! The small, unassuming frankfurter shop seems to have somewhat of a cult following, as the few Swedes we told about our stop at Gunter’s became very excited when we even mentioned the name. Ryan went for the Paprika Wurst and was visibly happy with his choice. Gunter’s Korvar is a must-try for carnivores looking for a sausage-fix while in “Venice of the North.”

5). Stockholms Matmarknad

There’s a bevy of fresh food to choose from at the Stockholm Matmarknad (Food Market). Centrally located and offering everything from cold-pressed fruit juices to fish straight-off-the-dock, this is a place where friends and family meet, eat and drink together, seven days a week. Eat on the go or stop at one of the trendy restaurants or bars for a sit-down meal that’s full of some of the highest quality ingredients in all of Scandanavia.
