One cannot visit Prague without experiencing an evening cruise down the Vltava River with Prague Boats. We were lucky enough to have dinner onboard The Bohemian Rhapsody, the newest of the company’s fleet (they have the most modern fleet in all of Prague), and had an unforgettable evening that became one of the major highlights of our trip.

Prague Boats offers an extensive variety of sailings, including short trips down the river, as well as brunch, lunch, dinner and dessert cruises. They even have a cruise which includes entry to the Grevin Wax museum where, as advertised on their website, you can stop and “take selfies with celebrities!” …I got a kick out of reading that. We did the Prague By Night cruise which, while I generally prefer sit-down dining (and Prague Boats does offer this on their Sweet Prague sailing), our tour included a very good dinner buffet, which we chose figuring it would offer a little more flexibility for the kids.

Stepping onboard the Bohemian Rhapsody, we (the adults) were each greeted with a glass of Czech Schnapps that had a fiery bite and a lasting taste of cinnamon. We choose to sit in the outdoor portion of the boat, although there was an indoor-seating area for those who preferred it. When one of the friendly waitresses came by our table, the children were excited to see “Sparkling Strawberry Juice” on the menu so they wanted to try that. I opted for a glass of cold and sweet, local white wine while Ryan stuck to the Pilsner beer he’d been drinking with each meal since we got to Prague.

As the cruise began, the dinner was prepared and presented to us. There was a nice assortment of some traditional Czech cuisine (I was thrilled to find the dumplings were vegetarian) as well as international offerings. The assortment of food included a variety of different meats, pastas, salads, cheeses and breads. The quality was very good and enjoying it while taking in some of the most enchanting sights imaginable made for an unforgettable night on the water. The dessert selection was also delicious and included various pastries, cookies, cakes and fruit.

As we floated beneath the stunning Charles Bridge, looking out at the city of Prague completely illuminated was beyond magical. From the boat we had unbeatable views of many outrageously famous landmarks including the Baroque St. Nicholas Church, the Prague Castle, the “Dancing House,” and if we looked closely, we could catch a glimpse of (part of) the Astronomical Clock in Old Town Square. Obviously we got up close and personal with the Charles Bridge and it was nice to see it from a different vantage point, looking up from below and not having to deal with the wild amount of foot traffic that’s inevitable when walking across it!

After we ate, our kids befriended a young Czech girl whom, despite the language barrier, was thrilled to join them in starting a dance party, while we all listened to the duo playing live music onboard. The entire night from start to finish was fantastic and everyone in Prague, tourists and residents alike, should experience a special evening with Prague Boats at some point in their life. We had an exceptional time and look forward to our future cruises with the company… Next time, I’d like us to try their more formal dinner cruise, Sweet Prague, as I’m sure it’s outstanding.
