If someone were to ask me the location of my favorite place to stay in Rome, it would easily be “somewhere close to the Spanish Steps.” Lucky for me, we got to spend our most recent stay in the Eternal City at Hotel Madrid Roma, a boutique hotel tucked conveniently just behind Piazza di Spagna.

Being within walking distance to a multitude of Roman attractions (the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, the Trevi Fountain, Borghese Gardens, the Colesseum—to name a few…), the location of Hotel Madrid couldn’t be more ideal. We had a large double room overlooking Via Mario de Fiori, a somewhat quiet street lined with apartments, cafes and high-end shops, and to our children’s delight, gelaterias (they were also psyched about the coy “pond” in the hotel lobby). It was perfect.

A major highlight for the hotel, in addition to the incredibly accommodating staff and outstanding location, is their beautiful breakfast on the rooftop terrace. The only thing that could possibly improve a morning cappuccino in Italy is to enjoy it on a rooftop terrace overlooking the city- so that was one of the many reasons Hotel Madrid scored big points with us. It also didn’t hurt that the waitstaff and baristas were some of the nicest people we had ever met. In true Italian fashion, we were treated like instant family.

The breakfast treats were all fresh and delicious as our kids and I fought over who would get the last cream-filled croissant (I shamelessly won). And of course, the coffee was strong and extraordinary, and as Ryan and I sipped our morning beverages of choice, the kids enjoyed steamed milk in their favorite Disney character cups.

Getting around the city from the hotel was simple and we did everything on foot. Had we wanted to, though, it would have been very easy to get a taxi (or uber), as the front desk personnel were extremely attentive throughout our stay, continually checking in to see if there was anything that we needed.
I always love being in Italy and appreciate the warm nature of the people we meet when there, and this held true for everyone we encountered at Hotel Madrid. From the hotel manager to the housekeeping team, every single person was truly a delight and helped to make our stay special. I look forward to returning to Rome and when we do, we will without a doubt be spending more time at Hotel Madrid Roma.
