The Dingle Skellig Hotel is an optimal choice for those wanting a home base on the coast of County Kerry, Ireland. As I’ve mentioned before, there is something about being on the coast and in the countryside of Ireland that reminds me a great deal of New England, and at the Dingle Skellig Hotel, we felt right at home. Throughout our stay, there were friendly staff members there to greet us around every corner, and our room had an amazing view as we looked out at the most westerly peninsula in all of Europe.

We had both breakfast and dinner at the hotel throughout our stay and both were excellent. Breakfast at the on-site Coastguard Restaurant was fantastic. Each morning, there is an impressive breakfast buffet with multiple stations, including a section with all of the items needed to make up a “Full Irish,” as well as fresh fruit, pastries, cereals, yogurt, cheeses, meat and even a make-your-own pancake display. European breakfast really are the best…

Dinner for us was in Blaskets Bar (there is also a more formal restaurant, Blaskets Bistro), and it was casual, cozy and the perfect pub for a Guinness and some Irish comfort food. The kids loved the live music which was a great introduction to Dingle for all of us.

Every person we met who worked at The Dingle Skellig Hotel couldn’t have been more eager to help us any way that they could. Between making sure everything was perfect with our room to giving us a number of recommendations of places to see and things to do around town, they all went above and beyond. We appreciated every tip and suggestion we were given as each one was great!

Amongst Europeans, it’s funny how the Italians are thought of to be the ones who will welcome strangers with open arms into their home for a meal, but being in Dingle, we met so many people who reminded us that the Irish are just as sweet, warm and inviting. We made friends with Locals as well as other tourists (some of whom we ended up running into later that week in Dublin… talk about a small world)!

We had a wonderful stay at The Dingle Skellig Hotel and are sure to return the next time we set out to explore The Wild Atlantic Way.
