I had seen photos of Hotel des Deux Continents online and was immediately attracted to the deep, candy apple-colored walls with frescos and decor that looked very much like what I would imagine “Old Paris” to look like. Located in the elegant and popular Saint-Germain-des-Pres neighborhood, the lively yet quiet Rue Jacob is lined with sophisticated shops, from boulangeries to galleries, designer clothiers and Ladurée, home of the renowned macaroon. Rue Jacob, in addition to everything that makes it the quaint and picturesque destination it is today, is also very interestingly the street where the treaty of Paris, giving independence to the United States of America, was signed in 1783!

The casual dining area of the hotel, opening into the sitting/reading/coffee room. I love the contrast of the gold sconces and mirror against the red walls with the dark, exposed beams on the ceilings.

A lovely spot to have your morning cafe au lait and read the paper, which many guests did in the morning.

The kids were hungry when we arrived and before they even had a chance to whine about it, the cheerful front desk manager arrived with warm croissants and an opportunity for me to practice my French. We were escorted to our chambre which actually consisted of two lovely adjoining rooms- the perfect opportunity for the four of us to get some rest. However, there was far too much exploring to be done!

The famous Les Deux Magots, a few blocks from the hotel in Saint-Germain-des-Prés.

Like many other Parisian hot spots, Les Jardins du Luxembourg are also just a brisk walk away from the hotel.

Fortunately, Hotel des Deux Continents is an easy walk to the Jardin de Luxembourg, amongst many other sought-after landmarks, where we spent some time wandering and were able to incorporate a stop at Angelina, the well-known patisserie and coffee shop featuring the thickest and sweetest chocolat chaud known to man. We also found one of the coolest playgrounds, even by adult standards, located right in the park, where we spent over an hour as the children played and burned off their chocolate. A win-win for us all.

An extensive assortment of goodies at Joséphine Bakery on Rue Jacob, steps from Des Deux Continents.

Macarons at L’ADURÉE!!!! across the street. I didn’t really even like macarons until trying one of these! They set a new standard…

Angelina’s chocolat chaud! With locations all over Paris, we went to the shop right by Luxembourg Gardens.

After a long day of walking through the City of Love, we had a wonderful, much-needed sleep back at Hotel des Deux Continents, followed by breakfast downstairs in the cozy dining area looking out to a small but beautiful courtyard. The kids were surprised by the hotel staff with two sweet “bon voyage” gifts full of age-appropriate fun (color-your-own postcards, colored pencils, soaps, shampoos and sponges)—a perfect little bag of activities which they were, of course, very excited about.

“Bon Voyage” gifts for the kids, from the kind hotel staff!

The kids loved Paris even more than I had expected them too. A giant playground in the middle of Luxembourg Gardens/Park, called “Poussin Verts” definitely helped to seal the deal.

The prime location of Hotel des Deux Continents, in addition to the exceptional service and kind demeanor by everyone who worked there, makes it a fantastic choice for those looking for a sweet and low-key Parisian escape in a remarkable arrondissement, at an exceptional nightly rate. La vie est belle!
