The last time I was in Stockholm, I was a teenager and though I didn’t visit it then, I had heard all about the famous Ice Bar in Sweden’s capitol. “What a cool concept,” I remember thinking, and knew I’d check it out eventually. Little did I know, my first visit to the bar itself would be over a decade later- with my husband and very young kids. Stockholm’s Ice Bar is located within the Nordic C Hotel, a hip and modern, funky accommodation perfectly suited for families and conveniently right next door to the city’s main train station.

Anybody who has ever stayed in a Scandinavian hotel knows that the rooms are typically on the smaller side, however our room was surprisingly spacious with its three beds and L-shape design.

Within the hotel, there is Hearts, a fun and casual restaurant and bar serving a medley of both American and Italian offerings (think burgers, lobster, pizzas and pasta). There is also a second dining location where they exclusively serve breakfast, and both hot and cold options are available to either eat there in the breakfast hall or to take away and enjoy on the go.

The kids were excited to find a children’s playroom full of games, toys and books and of course, we made our way to the Ice Bar.

We suited up in our cold-resistant parkas and gloves and headed inside the colorful and glowing igloo-of-a-bar. As one might imagine, it was freezing, but at the same time so cool, that it was well worth the chill. Both children got a kick out of the various ice sculptures in the room as well as the bright and fluorescent sweet fruit juices we were served out of five inch glasses made of ice… Ryan and I had the adult versions which were appropriately spiked with Svedka and we got a kick out of those too. We stayed for 2 drinks which was realistically only about 25 minutes or so (it was cold so we drank fast) and left when we thought the kids might need to warm up.

A short but fun experience, I was happy to finally have gotten to see what Stockholm’s well-known Ice Bar is all about. The Nordic C Hotel is an excellent and easy choice for visitors staying in Sweden’s capitol. The Ice Bar being located within the building is a definite plus and I can highly recommend this family-friendly accommodation to others looking for a temporary home in Stockholm!
