Sitting at the foot of the Prague Castle is The Golden Well Hotel, a luxury boutique accommodation rich with elegance and history (it was once part of the castle and still has its own special entrance). With only nineteen rooms, The Golden Well is a quiet retreat, located down a beautiful cobblestone street in the Lesser Town area of the city.

Welcomed with warm lavender-soaked hand towels, glasses of a delicious sparkling Czech wine and fresh fruit juice for the kids, the hotel, with its old-world Prague charm and warm personnel, made us even more excited about our visit to The City of a Hundred Spires.

Simon from the hotel seated us outside while we finished our drinks and he joined us as he went over a recommended itinerary that he’d prepared specifically for us. All of his suggestions were excellent- from where we should have dinner that night (Malostranska Pivnice– and it was delicious), to a great cafe and smoothie bar where we should have lunch the next day (Cukrkavalimonada). Simon also shared with us the ideal time to walk around the Castle Gardens (go later in the day when the crowds have cleared and the temperatures have cooled) and the best time of day to walk over The Charles Bridge (brace yourself…that time is sunrise)!

Our room was beautiful. A mix of modern sophistication and sixteenth-century design, the furniture, bedding, curtains and rug had been tastefully chosen, creating a luxurious European space to rest our heads. The children were delighted to see two adorable stuffed animals waiting for them, along with kid-sized terrycloth bathrobes, slippers and most importantly, individual chocolate cakes. I, myself, also enjoyed the sweet treats which were accompanied by a large fruit platter and a box of chocolates- all of which went well with our coffee that we made with our in-room machine.

During the course of our stay, we had a lovely Champagne Breakfast at Terasa U Zlaté studnÄ›, one of the hotel’s multiple restaurants. The food was great and the views from the second highest terrace of the building were magnificent.

There was a large assortment of different breads, pastries, fruits, cheeses and spreads and there was also an a la carte menu of breakfast items to choose from, which we all did. Between the four of us, we tried the pancakes, french toast, as well a twist on Eggs Benedict served with salmon, all of which came beautifully prepared and tasted as good as they looked.

Recently Voted “Number One Luxury Hotel In Europe” by Trip Advisor, it is easy to see how The Golden Well reigns supreme. With exceptional service, amenities, location and staff, The Golden Well is globally known as the place to stay in Prague. If it happens to be booked during the dates you plan to the city, the good news is it has a sister-hotel in town, Hotel Aria, which shares many of the features that make it so special, but has an overall more contemporary flare.
