With the Cotswolds villages being as charismatic and charming as they are, I can’t think of anything more enchanting than an artisanal chocolate shop right in the middle of this real-life story land. With locations in both Stow-on-the-Wold and Broadway, the Cotswolds Chocolate Company’s slogan is “eat me, don’t keep me,” and they make it very easy to abide by their words.
1). The Cotswolds Chocolate Company
Bookworms, take note. You can find this quaint, independent bookstore in the heart of Cirencester, on historic Black Jack Street. While the majority of the shop is devoted to children, there are a number of new and unique selections for adult readers, too. No matter your age, this magical, must-see bookshop is guaranteed to be a highlight of your day.
3). Domestic Science
Often referred to as an “experience” rather than simply just a store, Domestic Science brings a mighty mix of eclectic items, both modern and vintage- from bath and beauty to handcrafted children’s toys. There are two convenient locations- one in the village of Nailsworth and the other in Tetbury, so be sure to stop in and stay awhile… and make sure you enjoy a coffee + cake from the cozy, quirky cafe while you’re there.
As if the name doesn’t give it away, this part-farm, part-shop is the best of both worlds. With fresh dairy, produce, meats and bread, it’s a fifth-generation, family-owned, one-stop-shop for high-quality, locally-sourced food. For those looking to dine out, there’s even an on-site restaurant serving specialties such as fish and chips and wood-fired pizzas. After lunch, have an ice cream and take a stroll around the farm, making sure to say hi to the cute cows and happy horses along the way.
5). Highgrove
No trip to the U.K. would be complete without experiencing a taste of royalty. And Highgrove, being the private residence to Their Royal Highnesses, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, is the perfect place to do just that. Explore the exuberant Royal Gardens or better yet- take a guided Champagne Tea Tour before visiting the Estate Shop, where you’ll find everything from country attire to artwork by The Prince of Wales himself. The best part? All proceeds go to the Prince’s Charitable Fund, one of the largest independent foundations in the U.K.
