Recently, The Radisson Blu Saga Hotel in Reykjavik, Iceland underwent a renovation, adding 27 brand new Superior Rooms to the 236-room accommodation- the first phase of a total, whole-building makeover. I had heard great things about the hotel already so was delighted to have the chance to stay. We were given one of the new rooms and it’s always a treat when your hotel room feels so fresh, as if you were the first to stay there. In this case, we were!

The Superior Rooms are furnished appropriately with contemporary and modest, space-saving Scandinavian-style furniture, but large enough to include a King-sized bed. There was plenty of room for each of our kids to secure their own personal space for coloring in their notebooks, on the floor, which for us is always important! The bathroom glistened with all-white marble fixtures and a glass shower door the color of The Blue Lagoon. High-speed wifi is included with the room and there’s a new-edition Nespresso machine with a never-ending supply of pods that kept us awake despite the jet-lag, during our stay. The hotel itself is outside the city center but there are transportation shuttles that run frequently and will take you there in minutes.

While I have yet to meet a less-than-pleasant Icelandic person, the staff at The Radisson Blu Saga Hotel were all exceptionally sweet. If we needed anything at all-help with our luggage, a driver to pick us up, new towels, etc, someone was there to meet our needs at all times. It was also very helpful that ITA, Icelandic Travel Association, was located right in the hotel lobby. Because of time constraints, we didn’t have the chance to have dinner in either of the hotel restaurants, however on-site Grillið and Skrudur receive much praise from Locals and I definitely want to try them next time we are there. The hotel’s Super Breakfast, which we did have a chance to attend, was very good, and included some traditional Icelandic foods such as the country’s favorite Skyr yogurt, as well as flatbreads with local jams, cheeses and herbs.

We all really enjoyed our stay at The Radisson Blu Saga Hotel and I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of their renovations, as I know they will be tastefully done and inviting for guests.
