Drive through the mountains and underneath a tunnel of trees, and you will arrive on the warm, sandy shores of Kauai. The most lush and least developed of Hawaii’s four major islands, it is richly fertile, with jagged cliffs and pristine beaches. Koloa is also home to one of the world’s best beaches, Poipu.

“AMERICA’S BEST BEACH”

The Travel Channel
Poipu Beach was an easy choice for our family when deciding where to vacation in Hawaii, as it was named America’s Best Beach by The Travel Channel and ranked at the top of the 10 “best beaches” selected nationwide. It boasts a series of golden sand crescents, curving alongside turquoise clear waters. Poipu is referred to as “The Sunny South Side,” because it has perfect weather nearly all year round. It is reported to have the least amount of rainfall in Hawaii, making the sunny summer days feel endless.

We chose to enjoy our family vacation at the luxury villas of Koloa Landing Resort in Poipu. Nestled amongst 25 acres of lush landscape, the property was uncrowded, and we were able to enjoy all of the sites and activities with ease.

The resort featured luxurious amenities, perfect for our large family group as well as our kids. It included a poolside bar and grill, 24-hour fitness center, 4,000 square foot day spa, three resort style pools, a volleyball net, putting green, soccer area, Jacuzzi’s, fire pits and restaurant. They even had special, unique events and activities throughout our stay for the kids to enjoy. One evening they were able to enjoy making and eating smores.

The Main Pool

The pools were easily the most extravagant feature of the resort, with a 6,100 sq. foot family lagoon pool, 2,000 sq. ft tranquility pool, and 350,000-gallon main pool. Each one was unique, with lush plants, rock formations and waterfalls. They were a favorite for our kids!

We stayed in an extravagant 2,000 sq. ft. three-bedroom villa. It included three bedrooms with pillow-top beds, three bathrooms, a gourmet chef kitchen, enormous living room, and expansive lanai. The furniture was sophisticated, and the linens and décor were elegant. Disappearing glass doors brought paradise inside, and we felt that we were on island time for the duration of our stay.

During the day, we spent time at Poipu Beach. It was the perfect destination for a family beach day, with lifeguards, picnic facilities showers and wading pools. Endless activities were available, including snorkeling, swimming, and natural pools.

There was even a bodyboarding and surfing site for older children and skilled adults. During the months of December to April, humpback whales can be seen in the distance from the shores!

Hiking the mountains of Kauai

The staff and team at Koloa Landing were excellent and provided top-notch service. Their personal concierge team was available to assist in booking over 600 activities and adventures on Kauai. The options ranged from sunrise snorkel tours, to open-air helicopter tours of the islands. We opted to book a sunset dinner cruise along the Na Pali coast with Capt. Andy’s. We boarded a custom 65’ Star Class luxury catamaran and relaxed at sea enjoying freshly prepared dinner and cocktails.

The number one perk of Koloa Landing Resort was its location and proximity to all surrounding attractions. It was truly a one stop shop for restaurants, souvenir shops, local hotspots, sites and family-friendly activities! We were able to walk into the town with ease and visit the local shops and enjoy a variety of restaurants. Merriman’s Fish House was a family favorite for our group. They provide locally sourced Hawaiian dinners throughout their multi-level restaurant. They offered everything from specialty seafood (lobster, crab, shrimp, ahi tuna, and fresh fish) to pasta dishes, steaks and salads.
